This is a membership card for the Gary Mack Fan Club. One became a member by sending a peanut butter sandwich to Gary on February 25, 1966.

Issue #36 - Although “Issue No. 34” is printed on the survey, it is indeed No. 36.
KHJ Boss 30 - April 6, 1966
Issue #40 - “Soul and Inspiration” by the Righteous Brothers regains the No. 1 spot this week. It is one of only two songs to hit the No. 1 position after losing it in the Top 40 era of KHJ. “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac (1977) was the other song to accomplish the feat.

The Last Train To Clarksville
These are a few photos taken on “The Last Train To Clarksville.” It was a round-trip train excursion for hundreds of KHJ fans from Los Angeles to Del Mar (officially renamed Clarksville for the event). The Monkees arrived via helicopter in Del Mar and rode the train back to Los Angeles and performed live in one of the train cars. The event took place on September 11, 1966, one day prior to their TV premiere on NBC on September 12.

KHJ Boss 30 - December 7, 1966
Issue #75 - Gary Mack on the cover of the Boss 30 as KHJ begins the second annual “Christmas Wish” promotion.
“I’m A Believer” by the Monkees hits number one on the Boss 30 in only its second week on the survey. The only other record to accomplish this feat during the Boss Radio era was “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles.

KHJ Boss 30 - March 15, 1967
Issue #89 - Original Boss Jock Gary Mack makes his final appearance on the cover of the Boss 30. He went from behind-the-mike to behind-the-scenes as a National Program Director for Drake-Chenault.
Gary Mack passed away on April 14, 2026 at the age of 90.
