KHJ's version of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" eliminated the instrumental bridge.

Lots of records debuting this week. All were hitbounds except "Sky Pilot," which has a dash. The occasional record would debut like that, and I always wondered why it was NOT a hitbound before. It always gave me the impression that KHJ didn't see it coming.

That's interesting. I always assumed the dash meant the record was "hot off the press" and hadn't had time to be a Hitbound. One of these days I'll investigate it further.

Your take could certainly be true. But the feeling I had was that when a (--) record debuted on the Boss 30 on countdown night, it was the FIRST time KHJ had played the record. I can recall from when I used to listen to the new countdown on Wednesday nights, when such a song would debut, I hadn't heard it before. Sometimes I wouldn't even know its name. This was the case with "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" and "Proud Mary" in early 1969. And that's pretty funny on the latter. When it debuted on the Boss 30, I missed the title and assumed it was called "Rollin' on the River," naturally. I just figured it was the new single from that group that had done "Suzie-Q." Little did I know that the song would become such an enduring classic.

Survey erratum: "MacArthur Park" by Richard Harris has the "Weeks on Boss 30" listed as 6. It should be 5.
