What's poignant about this is that it was less than three weeks before Jan Berry's debilitating car crash--this may have been the last time Jam & Dean performed at full strength.

I remember it well. Tickets were ninety-three cents! And with all these stars it was probably the best concert ever. The bowl was full and totally rocked. Yup, those were the days, and that was THE day.

went to the concert with johnny mitchell (6-9 PM) and the reall don steele bang bang was a hot record as was monday monday and having otis redding open the festivities before bussing over to the whisky for more of his magical performances. think you baby was also big; bob lind was too stoned and wasn't allowed to play. what an evening- the equivalent of the next year's monterrey for chart songs.

Jan and Dean did not perform that night. One of them showed up, onstage, looking disoriented, and was escorted off (not Bob Lind, who did perform, as I recall). Otis Redding was electrifying! The Knickerbockers rocked! The Turtles, Sonny & Cher, and Mamas & The Papas were all excellent!

I remember too, that Jan and Dean didn't perform. The rumor was that they were drunk. The concert was really wonderful.

This was actually the first "real" concert I ever went to, not counting bands playing at dances, etc. And what a concert it was, especially for a "first" concert, completely and totally exciting all the way. Favorite performers? ALL of them truly great. My friend Lee & I took the bus from Burbank down to the HB. Yes, 93 cents were the ticket prices.

I was there and I remember that everyone went to the bathroom when Bob Lind performed. Otherwise, it was riveting. Otis Redding stole the show!

I suppose I was about 12 years old. Definitely my first concert, and indeed, one of the best. Not quite as good as Ziggy Stardust, but up there.
