"Lady Madonna" kept out of the No. 1 spot by "Honey." Sheesh.

Hey, I liked those sappy songs like "Honey."

Oh, I liked "Honey" too. Just don't like seeing the Beatles kept out of the top spot by a tearjerker. Goldsboro's follow-up that year switched the dying person to himself -- in "Autumn of My Life."

A fond memory I have is of a sketch done by the Smothers Brothers on their show that fall. "The Honey House." In the sketch, widower Tom leads tour groups through the house he shared with Honey, pointing out where she cried and where she got the dog and so on. It might have been the same show where they showed the "Hey Jude" or "Revolution" clips.
