"No Matter What" is a kickass single. Badfinger could rock.

"Stoned Love" is a rare example ("Spinning Wheel" is the only other one I can think off offhand) of KHJ playing the album version of a song instead of the single. The single started with the cold voice of Jean Terrell singing the title, and then the instruments kick in. But on the album, there is a long instrumental opening, with Jean singing a precede. Plus the album version has an instrumental break, which the single edits out. I had gotten the single and was disappointed that it had those edits. I wonder why KHJ would play the longer version when it usually cut songs shorter.

"Me About You" shows up on the Boss 30 in its third version in three years (Jackie deShannon in 1968 and the Lovin' Spoonful in 1969). As I've said in earlier entries, I wonder why so many artists kept trying with that song. The Turtles' version here is another old track, from their 1967 album. Why it was now released as a single is a mystery.

Strange that all these 3 year old songs start hitting the countdown.

Promotional copies of "Stoned Love" had the long version (3:43) on one side and the single edit on the other. I can see why they would have chosen the long one as it's far superior to the short version (the song makes more sense with the intro) and at about 3 1/2 minutes or less (if they faded it earlier), it wasn't all THAT long.

The Turtles had left White Whale by 1970 and the label, on its last legs at the time, was just releasing old tracks, presumably to make whatever money they could (check out the Turtles page at Way Back Attack: http://www.waybackattack.com/turtles.html). You could call "Me About You" a KHJ favorite, seeing as how they kept playing different versions!
