The 45 of "Are You Ready" was more than five minutes long, with a couple of slow-tempo verses, including a long intro. But KHJ played a much shorter version of the song, edited to use only the fast parts. It was effective, and I remember being disappointed that it wasn't on the 45. That edited, fast version finally came out on a Dick Bartley "On the Record" CD in the 1990s.

I got the short, fast version on Motown's "Hitsville USA: 1959-1971" box set. It's amazing what professional mixers and editors can do with music, chopping out eighteen minutes and leaving a tight, three-minute single. I also liked Humble Harve's pronunciation of "Rare Oyth."

Ray, I realized you thought I was referring to "Get Ready," which is on this chart at the same time as PG&E's "Are You Ready," which was the single I was referring to. But since you mentioned the Rare Earth track, I always wondered what the full-album-side version sounded like. I finally heard it decades later on a Rare Earth best-of CD.

Oh my. I don't know what I was reading. I loved "Are You Ready" by PG&E (another great group name). Definitely one of my favorites of the year.
