Donovan's "To Susan on the West Coast Waiting" is a sweet anti-Vietnam War song, but what's interesting here is that it charted just OK on both KHJ and nationally (No. 35), but a few months later, the flip side, "Atlantis," caught on nationally and went to No. 7. But KHJ never played it.
I got briefly unpopular last week when "Atlantis" played on the CD player in the car and I opined that Donovan might have been unduly influenced by the "Hey Jude" chorus (on which I believe he sang) and pulled something of a scam in creating a four-minute record with only 12 words actually sung (over and over).

My wife and daughter are big Donovan fans.
