I grew up in Granada Hills, California, and the father of one of my friends worked for Colgems. He was partially resposible for the Monkees Fan Club and the Beyers' garage was filled with Monkee fan mail. We used to climb on the open trusses of the garage roof and jump down into the Monkee mail. My friend told me that none of the junk the fans sent to the Monkees ever got to them, especially the food (tons of cookies and cakes) and the homemade clothing (sweaters seemed to be really popular). Good times.
