Rick Dees

Issue #715 - May 8, 1979

Rick Dees makes his first appearance on the survey. He came from WHBQ in Memphis and was the final morning drive deejay during KHJ’s Top 40 era. He went on to spend an amazing twenty-three years in the morning drive at KIIS.

I have heard that Rick Dees really enjoyed his time at KHJ and was very unhappy with the decision to change to country-western, "going from Boss to Hoss."

This move to hire Dees shows what happens when you put a real PD in. Not just a guy reliving his time at another market. Dees later proved his value.
