"Miss America" by Mark Lindsay is listed as a Hitbound, but it won't make the Boss 30. This was more common in the earlier years of KHJ but rare by this time.

Chicago makes their KHJ debut with "Make Me Smile." I thought it was a great song. Badfinger's "Come and Get It" was another favorite.

The Supremes have their first Diana Ross-less hit with "Up the Ladder to the Roof." I thought it was every bit as good as their previous material.

More fine singles, and I agree -- the Supremes with Jean Terrell sounded dandy, and I would argue that their 1970-71 singles were certainly as good as Diana Ross' solos, and that includes "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

KHJ played the 45 version of "Make Me Smile," but I was surprised to hear that on the album, "Chicago II," the song is broken into two pieces as the beginning and end of a long suite (which includes "Colour My World").

Many years later, first on bootleg and then on the "Anthology" series, we finally got to hear Paul McCartney's demo for "Come and Get It," where he played every instrument. The arrangement is exactly the same as Badfinger's -- no surprise given that Paul instructed them to do it just like that and have a big hit with it.
