The Jackson 5 make their first appearance, and they will own the Boss 30 for the next year and a half or so.

"Come Together" and "Down on the Corner" are in no hurry to leave.

I loved the Jackson 5 stuff up through "Mama's Pearl." The distinctive openings of their songs were great. They came close to having six consecutive No. 1 songs on the Boss 30, prevented by "only" having a No. 2 with "The Love You Save" and a No. 3 with "Mama's Pearl."

And I'd add "Never Can Say Goodbye" to that streak of great single. Of course, on Billboard, the first four all hit No. 1, and "Mama's Pearl" fell just short at 2. When I hear these great Jackson 5 singles, it's hard to believe that energetic youthful voice will grow up to be what we now think of Michael Jackson.
